Tottenham defender was left surprised when Pochettino did this

Tottenham Hotspur managed to surprise many last week, putting one foot into the quarter finals of the Champions League by beating Borussia Dortmund.

Spurs smashed three past the German League leaders, and managed to keep a clean sheet of their own to take a big advantage into the return leg.

Goals from Heung Min Son and Fernando Llorente, as well as a show stopping goal, assist, and man of the match performance from Jan Vertonghen stole the headlines.

However, Spurs’ reshuffled defence should also get a mention, as they managed to shut out one of the most potent teams in Europe this season.

Young Juan Foyth was particularly impressive on the ball at the back, but the Argentine central defender has admitted he was surprised when Pochettino decided to start him.

Spurs lined up with Foyth, Davinson Sanchez, and Toby Alderweireld in a back central three against Dortmund, with Vertonghen and Serge Aurier as wing backs.

Foyth said (club website): “It was fantastic, really. The Champions League is a dream for every player. When the gaffer told me I was starting I was a little bit surprised but really, really happy. I told my family, my friends and I enjoyed the game a lot.”
