Tottenham defender rated higher than Varane and Azpilicueta

The new season has entered September, which means the newest instalment of FIFA is on the horizon, and official ratings have started to be released by EA Sports.

One Tottenham player who will be chuffed to bits with the latest ratings is defender Jan Vertonghen, who sees his stocks rise in this year’s game.

The Belgian star has been bumped up from 85 to 87 after another impressive season, and a third place finish with his country at the World Cup.

This puts the Tottenham centre-back on the same rating as French sensation Kylian Mpbappe.

Next to Vertonghen’s name and rating, a description reads: “The big Belgian centre-back is the cog that keeps Tottenham Hotspur’s defence running smoothly, as he uses all aspects of his 88 Defending rating to lead his teammates, mark attackers, tackle the ball away, and win aerial duels at every opportunity.”

Jan’s stats are as follows: 63 pace, 63 shooting, 73 passing, 72 dribbling, 88 defending and 79 in physical strength.

He is rated the 48th best player in the world according to FIFA.

He also has a higher rating than his defensive opponents Rafael Varane and Cesar Azpilicueta, as well as the likes of Matic, Sane, Ozil, Fernandinho, Mane and Firminho.

This makes very good reading for the Tottenham man.
