Tottenham defender sets impressive club record against Brighton despite defeat

Squawka have revealed that no Tottenham defender has registered more assists in a single Premier League season than Pedro Porro has this campaign.

Winding back the clock a few months, it was far from clear that Porro was going to have a future at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou.

The Spaniard had exclusively played as a wing-back over the last few years and hugged the touchline while the Aussie coach’s system demands his full-backs to invert and occupy central positions.

However, Porro has excelled in the new role, with the 23-year-old continuing to get better with each game that he plays.

The former Sporting Lisbon man has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers this season and has arguably been the best player in his position across the Premier League.

Pedro Porro is now Spurs’ most creative defender

Porro picked out Ben Davies with a pin-point cross for Spurs’ second against Brighton, with the goal ultimately proving to be a consolation for Ange Posteoclgou’s men.

That was the Spurs star’s seventh assist in 18 Premier League games, which is the most that any defender has managed for the Lilywhites in a single campaign.

For Porro to have clinched this record in just half a season is quite extraordinary. One would not put it past the Spaniard to finish the season with around 15 assists, which is an output that even the best attacking players would be proud of.
