Tottenham defender signs new contract extension

Ben Davies has signed a new contract with Tottenham that runs until 2025, the club have now confirmed.

Davies was one of Spurs’ most consistent players last season, with the Welshman making the left centre-back spot in the back three his own since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm in November.

He started 34 of 36 matches after the Italian’s arrival last season including 26 of 27 Premier League games (Tottenham’s official website).

The 29-year-old, who joined Spurs from Swansea City in 2014, has now completed eight years at the north London club and has featured for the Lilywhites 271 times across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Davies will face increased competition for a place in the starting eleven next season after the arrival of Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona.

In a show of faith toward the experienced defender, the club have now rewarded him with a new three-year contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is excellent news and a well-deserved deal for Davies, who was one of our most consistent performers last season. Despite Lenglet’s arrival at Tottenham, I fully expect the Welshman to be regular in Conte’s starting eleven during the upcoming season.
