“Tottenham don’t win titles” – Gary Neville pours cold water on title hopes

Despite Tottenham Hotspur demonstrating their winning mentality yet again with a hard-fought win against West Brom on Sunday, Gary Neville is still not convinced that they have a shot at winning the Premier League title.

Tottenham started the season on fire in front of goal aided by an in-form Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

After blowing teams away in some of their first few matches of the campaign, Jose Mourinho’s men have shown a different side in their last three Premier League games against Burnley, Brighton and West Brom.

The North Londoners have managed to come away with nine points from those three matches despite not being at their best, scoring late winners in all three games.

They have also proved their defensive capability by conceding just once in those three matches, with Mourinho now seeming to have settled on a Toby Alderweireld-Eric Dier partnership has his first choice.

Neville admitted that it would be a fantastic story if Mourinho leads Tottenham to a title but felt that it will be too big an ask.

The former Manchester United defender said on The Gary Neville podcast: “Tottenham, I said a couple of weeks ago they couldn’t win the league, and I still don’t think they can.

“Carragher said it would be the most outstanding story if Mourinho won the league with Tottenham and I do agree with that.

“It would be something that would alarm Manchester United fans, Chelsea fans, Arsenal fans.

“It would be one of the great stories because Tottenham don’t win titles. He’s got the forward players to do it, you think of the strike force and the goals – it’s incredible.”
