Tottenham duo earn spot in Troy Deeney’s Premier League Team of the Week

Two Tottenham Hotspur players have been named in Troy Deeney’s team of the week following their standout performances against Ipswich Town, with one of them making the list for the second consecutive week.

Tottenham Hotspur secured their third consecutive Premier League win last weekend with a commanding 4-1 victory over Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town.

The result marked Spurs’ tenth win of the season and helped them close the gap to fourth-placed Manchester City to eleven points.

During the victory, several players delivered standout performances, including Brennan Johnson, who netted a brace, and Djed Spence, who added the third of the Lilywhites’ four goals.

Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence in Team of the Week

Following their impressive displays, both Johnson and Spence have earned a place in Troy Deeney’s team of the week. The 24-year-old full-back has made a return after featuring in the pundit’s team of the week last gameweek.

Writing in his BBC Sport column, Deeney praised Spence, saying: “He scored a deflected shot against Ipswich but it’s more for the weeks of being so consistent when that Spurs team were struggling and loads of players were out. Him and Archie Gray were the two that stood out consistently.”

He also highlighted Johnson’s impact: “Timely for him to be back with two good goals. Tottenham have missed his direct play and obviously that goal threat that he carries. Spurs are looking a lot more like the real attacking threat we know they can be.”

Since returning to the team in December, Spence has been a consistent performer, but his goal against Ipswich Town was his first in the Premier League. It was a well-taken goal from inside the penalty box, following a James Maddison assist.

Johnson, on the other hand, is no stranger to finding the net. His brace at the weekend took his combined goals and assists tally for the season to 17, with 14 goals and three assists. Of those 14 goals, nine have come in the Premier League.
