Tottenham duo rank among Champions League’s fastest, but no Micky Van de Ven

New Champions League data has now highlighted two Tottenham stars among the fastest players this season, with Micky van de Ven not featuring.

Tottenham Hotspur do have a fair few quick players who are also strong ball carriers in their current squad.

Of course, when it comes to pace, Micky van de Ven naturally comes to mind, given his track record across most of his career.

The Dutchman even has his trademark move of carrying the ball from his own half and driving into the opposition half with his blistering pace, a trait that has led to several assists and goals.

However, the 24-year-old is not the only quick player at Tottenham, and recent data shows that two other Spurs players have recorded top speeds that many players in the Champions League have not reached this season, including van de Ven.

Two Tottenham players among Champions League’s fastest this season

This report comes from Transfermarkt, who are known for their statistical compilations in the football space.

The data organisation revealed in a post on X the players who have recorded the highest top speeds in the Champions League this season, with two Tottenham players making the top ten.

Mathys Tel comes in ninth after hitting a top speed of 35.61km/h, placing him ahead of the pacy Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

However, in fifth place sits Djed Spence, who has recorded an impressive top speed of 35.87km/h, level with PSG’s Bradley Barcola in fourth place.

At the top of the list, we have Dimata 39.60km/h, in second place Openda 36.19km/h, and in third place Henrique 35.95km/h.

What pace offers Spurs moving forward

Of course, having players with exceptional pace is an asset both in attack and defence for any side.

Spurs are fortunate to have speedsters in key areas of the pitch, as they are capable of springing into attacks quickly in transition and recovering well when being counter-attacked.

However, with Tottenham’s form faltering, it is fair to question whether the manager is fully utilising all of the assets available to him when setting up his side.
