Tottenham express interest in signing experienced Italy international

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on an experienced Italian defender ahead of the summer transfer window and the North London club have learned that they could land him for a cut-price fee.

Tottenham could turn to Serie A once again for reinforcements

Tottenham have had plenty of success with recruits from Serie A over recent years, with Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario thriving at North London since their switch.

It was revealed in the January window that Spurs made a move for another proven Serie A performer in Fikayo Tomori, but the former Chelsea man turned down the approach.

A fresh update has now suggested that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have turned their attention to another experienced centre-back who has been a solid performer in the Italian top flight for the best part of a decade.

Tottenham eyeing summer move for Roma’s Gianluca Mancini

It has been claimed by RomaForever that the Lilywhites have expressed an interest in Giallorossi defender Gianluca Mancini.

The former Atalanta man has made 161 appearances for Roma since making the move to the Italian capital in 2020 and has been a mainstay of their backline for the majority of that time.

The report claims that Spurs ‘really like’ the Italian international and have identified him as someone who can further bulk up their stocks at centre-back.

It is asserted that the Premier League side are willing to pay €18m (£15m) for the 28-year-old, which would be enough to convince the Serie A club to part ways with their long-serving defender.

Has Ange Postecoglou realised the importance of experience at the back?

Tottenham’s recent centre-back targets, Kevin Danso, Fikayo Tomori, and now Gianluca Mancini, are very different profiles to the likes of Radu Dragusin and Micky van de Ven.

It might suggest that Ange Postecoglou has realised the importance of having experienced heads in defence and urged the club to tweak their transfer policy.

However, the jury is out on whether Mancini is suited to Premier League football, particularly the high-intensity approach that is expected at Tottenham.
