Tottenham eye AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw as summer centre-back reinforcement

Tottenham are reportedly showing interest in another pacy AC Milan defender – Malick Thiawas the club looks to reshape their back line ahead of next season.

Every Tottenham Hotspur fan would agree that the Lilywhites need a pacy centre-back in the heart of their defence.

The club already have Micky van de Ven, and while it’s difficult to replace someone of his quality, recent reports now suggest that a viable option could be available this summer.

Van de Ven has had his fair share of injuries, and since recovering from his latest setback, his minutes have been managed carefully, with appearances now limited to crucial fixtures.

Tottenham eye AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw

Reports from TBR Football have now revealed that Tottenham like AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw.

The German defender has been described in the Italian press as ‘deceptively quick’, proactive in pressing situations, and solid when playing out from the back.

While Spurs are said to admire the 23-year-old, it’s Newcastle United who appear more determined to make a move for him ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Magpies were linked with Thiaw last summer, but the German international ended up staying at the San Siro.

Spurs defensive rebuild could hinge on AC Milan’s summer plans

A move away from Italy is on the table, though there’s just as much chance Thiaw remains at Milan.

The report claims that several Premier League clubs rate Thiaw highly, but with the defender playing regularly and not unhappy at his current club, much could depend on who is in charge at Milan next season.

It’s also claimed that Fikayo Tomori is more likely to leave AC Milan this summer than Thiaw, and this may influence Spurs’ summer planning, as Tottenham showed strong interest in signing Tomori during the January window, but a deal never materialised.
