Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a surprise move to bring a former Manchester United star back to the Premier League.
There has been plenty of debate about Tottenham’s double pivot of Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha, with some Spurs fans feeling that the duo do not offer enough going forward.
However, Thomas Frank is clearly a big fan of Palhinha and Bentancur, and it is difficult to argue with the Dane’s selections, given the Lilywhites’ defensive record this season.
It has now emerged that the North Londoners are turning their attention to another energetic and physical midfielder, who is making waves in Serie A.

Tottenham plotting a move for Napoli’s Scott McTominay
TEAMtalk claim that Spurs are now eyeing a move for Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, who has taken his game to a different level since his switch to Italy.
The 28-year-old was a much-maligned figure during the end of his time at Old Trafford, but he has flourished since his move to Naples, being one of the driving forces behind the club’s Scudetto triumph last season.
This has not gone unnoticed at Tottenham, who are now looking to bring McTominay back to the Premier League.
The outlet alleges that Spurs believe the Scotland international is the ‘ideal player’ to provide energy and spark to their midfield engine room.
Spurs facing competition from two clubs for Scott McTominay
TEAMtalk say that the former Man United man is also on Barcelona’s three-man midfielder shortlist, with the Catalan side a big fan of the player.
Additionally, Newcastle United are also thought to be involved in the race, with Eddie Howe seeing McTominay as someone who can add leadership and experience to his Magpies side.
However, the report concludes that a January sale of the midfielder has been ruled out categorically by Napoli, with the player said to be happy at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
