Tottenham face repeat Gibbs-White nightmare amid Antoine Semenyo release clause twist

It may be a case of deja vu at Tottenham, as a new report has revealed worrying news about Antoine Semenyo’s release clause.

Over recent days, some sources have claimed that Tottenham have moved to pole position in the race for Semeyno as the North Londoners look to complete a deal for the winger in January.

It has been claimed that Spurs may have to shatter their transfer record to land Semenyo, who is thought to be valued at around £75m by Bournemouth.

Tottenham are expected to face plenty of competition for the Ghana international, but a new update has revealed an interesting detail about the 25-year-old’s contract.

Tottenham target Antoine Semenyo has a release clause at Bournemouth

It has now been revealed by talkSPORT that Semenyo’s current deal at the Vitality Stadium contains a release clause.

The winger put pen to paper on a new five-year deal in the summer, and it is explained that the way the Cherries got their star man to commit is by agreeing to insert a release clause in his deal.

However, as things stand, the value of Semenyo’s release clause is unknown, and Bournemouth want to keep it under wraps.

The report adds that Tottenham Hotspur and Man United enquired about the Ghanaian in the summer, and the two clubs remain keen on the player.

Another Morgan Gibbs-White situation for Spurs?

Tottenham had a bad experience attempting to sign another player whose contract contained a confidential release clause back in the summer.

Nottingham Forest managed to block Gibbs-White’s move to Spurs, accusing Spurs of illegally approaching the player after his confidential £60m release clause was met.

Gibbs-White eventually decided to put pen to paper on a new contract at Forest, which came as a huge blow to the North London club.
