It was well documented that Tottenham became the first Premier League club in history not to sign a single player in the summer transfer window this year.
However, it appears that this particular record wasn’t through a lack of trying, as Spurs are reported to have failed in a £30m for a player.
No, this isn’t Jack Grealish, but Serie A star Giovanni Simeone. Fiorentina are said to have rebuffed the offer, desperate to hold onto the player until at least January.
Simeone scored 14 goals last season, his debut at Fiorentina since his move from Genoa in 2017.
It is understood that Spurs remain keen on the centre-forward, but may face competition from Giovanni’s father Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
