Tottenham Hotspur supporters have finally shown appreciation for Guglielmo Vicario, who has often been at the centre of harsh criticism, following his standout display in Europe.
Tottenham Hotspur have managed just one win in their last five games as Thomas Frank’s side continues to struggle for consistency.
Their most recent outing saw them grind out a rather fortunate draw against AS Monaco, who could easily have taken all three points considering the chances they created across both halves.
Had it not been for a heroic showing from Guglielmo Vicario, Frank’s side might have fallen to their first defeat in Europe this season.
Guglielmo Vicario earns Tottenham fans’ praise after standout display
Vicario, who has been on the receiving end of constant criticism from sections of the Tottenham fanbase, has now earned widespread praise for his superb performance.
Asked about their thoughts on the Italian goalkeeper’s display, many fans took to X to share their admiration.
One fan said: “Brilliant… only reason Spurs came away with a point.” Another wrote: “Saved us from being 6/7 nil down. Early days, but Frank ball sucks right now.”
A third added: “Very well played. 9/10. Spurs need to focus on priorities – centre forward and left side. It is hard without Son and Kane but you have to progress.”
“For once an actual ‘Venom’ Vicario performance. Not a good distributor but totally saved our arses from big, big embarrassment today. Hats off,” another remarked.
One more commented on Guglielmo Vicario’s MOTM display for Tottenham: “Best goalkeeper performance since Courtois UCL final.” A fan admitted: “I am not his biggest fan but credit where credit’s due, he was unreal last night.”
Another added: “He got us that point. Proved why we should stick with him as the starting goalkeeper.” Finally, one said: “Best player on the pitch. And that should never be the case for a keeper, shows how poor we were.”
Vicario consistency remains key for Spurs
Of course, Guglielmo Vicario’s performance comes as no surprise, as every Tottenham supporter knows how good a shot-stopper he is when in form.
However, with Vicario, the real issue lies in consistency, as he can produce such outstanding performances yet still be prone to the occasional costly mistake.
Spurs, however, have bigger concerns at the moment, with results and performances far from convincing, leaving Thomas Frank with plenty to ponder in the coming weeks.
