Tottenham fans flooded social media with excitement after Johnny Cardoso’s standout display in the UEFA Conference League final, with many now urging the club to trigger their £21 million option to sign the midfielder permanently.
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be busy this summer, with reports stating that Spurs are looking to strengthen three positions ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The midfield is one of such positions, as Spurs are in dire need of a number six following Yves Bissouma’s poor 2024/25 season – a campaign filled with inconsistencies and a worrying drop in form.
Spurs will begin their summer window by paying their £21 million obligation-to-buy clause that was inserted in Kevin Danso’s winter move from Lens.
Tottenham also hold an optional £21 million clause to buy Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis this summer – a clause included in the deal that saw Giovanni Lo Celso move to the Spanish side.

The American international has been a standout performer in Spain this season, helping Real Betis to a sixth-place finish in La Liga while also playing a key role in their run to the UEFA Conference League final, where they eventually faced Chelsea.
The 23-year-old was particularly impressive in that final, where Real Betis looked unplayable during the first half before Chelsea raised their level after the break, eventually running out 4-1 winners to claim the trophy.
Despite the defeat, Cardoso’s first-half performance on the night left a strong impression on the Tottenham faithful, many of whom had tuned in to watch the final.
One Spurs fan posted: “Seen enough. Pull the trigger on Cardoso.” Another said: “Cardoso too good to be American, he needs to renounce his citizenship and become a fully fledged Brazilian.”

With the transfer rumour mill in full swing, reports from Fichajes claim that Tottenham are planning a major investment into their squad as they prepare for a return to the UEFA Champions League.
It is believed that Spurs have already begun identifying targets who can immediately improve the quality and depth of their starting eleven ahead of a demanding campaign.
Johnny Cardoso is one of those players, and although Tottenham hold a £21 million option to buy him this summer, the final decision will rest with the Real Betis midfielder, who must give the move his approval.
