Tottenham fans are all saying the same thing about Mathys Tel after his brilliant display for France in the U21 European Championship.
Tottenham Hotspur have every reason to believe that their permanent £29.5 million signing of Mathys Tel this summer is a smart piece of business, as they negotiated a cut-price deal with Bayern Munich after an initial £45 million option to buy clause was inserted in the winger’s loan move to north London.
A six-year deal signed by Tel means that the youngster could spend the best part of his prime years at Tottenham, and with the Frenchman being only 20, Spurs believe they have a top talent on their hands.
While Tel’s first six months in N17 were not the most impressive, his recent showings at the U21 European Championship for France are now reminding everyone of the immense quality he possesses.

Tottenham forward Mathys Tel earns comparisons to Defoe
The Tottenham man has already scored two goals in the European Championship, with both strikes coming after he signed his new long-term deal with Spurs.
His latest goal was a decisive one, as he grabbed the winner in France’s 3-2 quarter-final victory over Denmark – a brilliant effort from the left-hand side, where he cut inside onto his stronger foot and curled beyond the goalkeeper.
Tottenham fans have been quick to react to the 20-year-old versatile forward’s latest performance, with some comparing him to Jermain Defoe, while others were optimistic about the youngster’s chances in the upcoming season.
One fan said: “15 goal season incoming”. Another praised his ball-striking technique: “Not as hot on Tel as most are but he has such a lovely ball striking technique. Reminds me sort of first season Son.”
A supporter drew similarities with a Spurs legend: “Reminds me of Defoe with that finish.” Another added: “I know it is U21s football but god does the kid have some talent, next season he will be brilliant.”
With a six-year deal signed, one fan believes supporters could get used to seeing such moments frequently in a Spurs shirt: “It’ll come a time where he’s doing this week in, week out for us. Bookmark this.”
Another highlighted his upturn in form since moving to the left: “Mathys Tel sends France to the semi-final with a spectacular finish. He has been SUPERB since he was pushed to the left-hand side to accommodate substitutions.”
A different supporter chimed in: “I do not care, Tel is a good player and I am choosing to ignore anyone who says otherwise.”
Thomas Frank impressed by Tottenham winger Mathys Tel’s potential
New Spurs head coach Thomas Frank was quick to highlight that Tel is a terrific signing for Tottenham.
It has also been reported that Frank believes he can help improve Mathys Tel when he begins working with him at Hotspur Way.
Of course, for fans, with the youngster now finding a bit of rhythm ahead of the new campaign, they will be hoping he can find some consistency during the upcoming season.
Heung-min Son could depart Tottenham soon, and should that happen, Tel could be the ideal long-term replacement. Given his age and raw ability, it is certainly an exciting prospect for the club.
