Tottenham fans react to as Thomas Frank adds 2025 Premier League winner to his staff

Tottenham supporters have been quick to voice their opinions following a fresh backroom appointment, with reactions ranging from optimism to outright frustration as debate around the club’s direction continues to bubble.

Tottenham Hotspur only just lost Matt Wells before the winter window, with the former assistant manager securing a move to the MLS to join Colorado Rapids.

That departure left a vacancy within Thomas Frank’s backroom staff, a gap Tottenham have now moved to address.

It has since been confirmed that John Heitinga is now part of Frank’s coaching staff, joining as First Team Assistant Coach, following spells with Ajax and Liverpool.

Tottenham fans react to John Heitinga appointment

Spurs fans who have caught wind of the latest addition have not held back with their reactions, with many unconvinced by how the club is being run.

One Tottenham supporter questioned the tactical direction, commenting: “Already defensive enough under Frank, and we bring in another defensive coach to help be more defensive.”

while another offered brief approval by adding: “Nice addition, to the club,” and one fan simply said: “This is exciting.”

Others were more sceptical, with one stating: “To be Frank, this changes nothing, I am afraid.”

Some Tottenham fans focused on Heitinga’s experience, with one encouraged by his background, saying: “Hold up, was he the main Ajax manager a while ago? And now he is an assistant at Spurs? Decent appointment.”

There were also more critical views, including one supporter who wrote: “What is the point? He [Frank] is going anyway, lost the fans months ago,” while another joked about the short-term nature of the role, stating:  “Shortest term as assistant coach ever incoming”

Heitinga could be Thomas Frank’s successor should he be sacked

Frank remains a man under pressure, and it is no surprise that many supporters are not overly keen on the latest appointment.

It is an interesting choice from Spurs, who have opted to hire a former player with head coach experience as an assistant, given Heitinga’s previous spell in charge of Ajax, one that only lasted months.

While the club continues to back Frank, it is difficult to ignore the sense among some fans that, should results deteriorate further, Heitinga could be viewed as a potential interim option.
