Tottenham fans rip into Guardiola for insulting comment about the team

Last season, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola took a dig at Tottenham’s over-reliance on their star striker Harry Kane, by referring to Spurs as “the Harry Kane team”, in a post-match press conference after a win at Stamford Bridge.

The comment certainly didn’t sit well with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino who labeled it disrespectful to many of his players.

So, it was indeed a sweet moment for Spurs fans yesterday as a Spurs team without Harry Kane knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League.

The England captain damaged ligaments in his left ankle during the first leg at Tottenham’s new stadium last week and was thus unavailable for the return leg.

However, that proved not to be a problem for Spurs, as they scored three goals at the Etihad Stadium without their talisman up front to progress to the next round on away goals.

Spurs fans certainly didn’t miss the opportunity to remind Guardiola of the remark he made last season. Here’s how some fans reacted on social media:
