That defeat marked Spurs’ 11th of the campaign and has them just above 17th place, where they finished last season – a hint that Tottenham have barely improved under the Dane.

Spurs fans have long since made their feelings about Frank clear, with calls for his dismissal ringing around since October last year after disappointing results.
The Tottenham higher-ups stuck with the former Brentford man for eight months, but Frank’s Spurs departure was finally announced on Wednesday morning. But who could replace him?

Tottenham fans name interim favourites after Thomas Frank sacking
Tottenham fans have not waited long to start naming their preferred interim managers of choice to replace Frank.
Taking to social media, one fan said: “Jesus Perez, get the team playing Poch style, will let Poch know who to keep/sell. He goes back to USA to WC with Poch, they both come home end of June. No one can tell me a better solution to our situation”
Another mentioned: “Redknapp, Robbie Keane, Roy Keane, anybody.” One more called for Postecoglou, saying: “Guys we really don’t have to look far, just bring back our trophy-winning manager. He’s familiar with the surroundings the players know him he knows the players simple.”
The calls for Redknapp kept coming, with one fan reasoning: “The mood and confidence is so low right now – we don’t need a master tactician – just a motivator to get this squad believing in themselves – Harry Redknapp would be the wrong guy in almost every other circumstance – but not this one.”
Meanwhile, another fan called for someone who understands what it means to pull on the Spurs shirt: “Deffo, Keane, Berbatov, King anyone that knows what it’s like to pull on the shirt and get the team together again.”
Another Tottenham fan added: “We may as well go fully 2004 caretaker era and get David Pleat back in…”
While one called for Xabi Alonso: “Xabi Alonso would do a job, he would command the respect of the players due to what he’s achieved in the game as a player and manager in Germany. Failure at Real Madrid was more club politics, not bad management.”
Another mentioned: “Is Benitez still knocking about? I think he’d be better than Harry or Mason given the situation we’re in.”
One more Tottenham supporter added: “Redknapp/ Chris Hughton/ Ryan Mason dream team,” and there were also calls for the likes of “De Zerbi” and “Big Sam”.
Spurs’ preferred interim manager revealed amid Frank uncertainty
Hiring an interim for the rest of the season looks like the best course of action to take now that Thomas Frank has officially been sacked.
Reports claim that John Heitinga is already the club’s preferred choice for an interim role, and that could work, given he has experience as a manager following his stint at Ajax.
That should also buy the Spurs higher-ups some time heading into the summer before they make another permanent managerial change, where options will be plenty, with the likes of Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Enzo Maresca, Mauricio Pochettino and De Zerbi all out of jobs.
