James Maddison has provided a positive update on his rehabilitation from his ACL injury at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Tottenham attacking midfielder ruptured his ACL during Spurs’ pre-season game in South Korea against Newcastle, which proved to be Heung-min Son’s farewell game.
Maddison was in tears as he was stretchered off the pitch, which suggested that he immediately knew that it was an ACL injury.
It was reported earlier that the Tottenham midfielder is unlikely to play again this season, but he has now provided an encouraging update on his recovery.

Tottenham star James Maddison hints he is ahead of schedule in his recovery
Thomas Frank said recently that Maddison is in his early stages of rehabilitation, refusing to give a timeline for the 29-year-old’s return.
However, the former Leicester man has now revealed that he is doing really well for the stage of recovery he is at, and spoke about how he is keeping himself occupied through this difficult period.
When asked about his injury, Maddison told Sky Sports: “Yeah, I’m doing really well for the stage I’m at. It’s obviously a long injury, which I’ve got and had big knee surgery. It’s about more than anything right now about staying in the right mindset. I’ve had to accept and get over the fact that I’m going to be out for a long time.
“It destroyed me on the inside. It was such a big season for me with a new manager coming in and in a World Cup year for England. It just felt like I really wanted to have a massive season for myself at this point in my career, but that wasn’t the journey that was lined up for me. “
I’ve dealt with this, and I’ve dealt with bad things in the past, and this is one of them. I’ve tried to do a few different things in my time out by starting a YouTube channel and starting the ball rolling on my coaching badges. My partner and I have had another set of twins, so there’s lots going on in my life to try and keep my mind in a good place and also watching a lot of football.”
Spurs have missed Maddison’s creativity
There has been a lot made about Tottenham’s lack of creativity and whether that is a feature or a bug in Frank’s system.
However, one cannot overstate how much that is down to the personnel that the Dane has missed. Had Maddison been fit and firing, there is no doubt that Spurs would have created more chances.
Thankfully, it appears as if Xavi Simons is now finding his feet at Tottenham, and Spurs fans will be hoping that the Dutchman can have a strong second half of the season.
