Tottenham fans will love what Ian Wright had to do after watching the win in Bilbao

Ian Wright has shared what he did after the full-time whistle went in the Europa League final last Wednesday, with the former Arsenal man being in attendance at San Mames to watch Tottenham break their trophy drought.

Tottenham Hotspur fans will get a reprieve from the constant banter from the opposition fans about the club’s lack of silverware after the North Londoners finally managed to get over the line and secure their first piece of silverware in 17 years.

The Europa League win could be a springboard for the club to push on, with Tottenham’s coffers boosted significantly as a result of Champions League qualification.

Some outlets have reported over recent days that Spurs are expected to flex their financial muscle by making statement signings ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Ian Wright admits he had to escape undetected after Spurs win

Despite his Arsenal allegiances, Wright said that he is delighted for Tottenham fans to be able to finally experience that winning feeling after such a long time.

However, he confessed that he had to sneak out quietly from San Mames once the final whistle went and Spurs had come out on the right side of the result.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show on Optus Sport, the former Arsenal striker said about Tottenham’s Europa League win: “I couldn’t believe it, do you know what? I was there and I just had to sneak out like a thief in the night.

“I went to watch it, I can’t believe I went to watch Tottenham and Man United, but you can’t help but be happy for the Tottenham fans, and I’m happy for Ange because if you hang in there, you get something, and that’s what he did.”

Tottenham cannot let this opportunity slip

Things would have been extremely bleak for Spurs if they had lost the final as not only would they have struggled to attract top players without Champions League football, but they would have also not had the resources to sign big names.

The Europa League win has given the club a get-out-of-jail-free card while also having the added benefit of debilitating Man United, who would have been direct competitors to the Lilywhites in the transfer market.

Reports indicate that Tottenham’s recruitment department are prioritising signing proven experience this summer, and Spurs fans will be desperate for the club to show some ambition ahead of the new season.
