Mathys Tel has apparently made his feelings clear on a potential move away from Tottenham this summer, with the youngster focused on helping Spurs through a difficult period.
Tottenham Hotspur’s 2025/26 season shows no signs of improvement, with the club sitting just one point above the relegation zone and seven Premier League games remaining.
Tottenham’s struggles this season can be put down to a number of factors. The manager, the club’s hierarchy, recruitment and injuries have all been questioned, but the players must also take responsibility for failing to step up when it has mattered most.
The most recent example came in the damaging 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, a result that only deepened concerns around Tottenham’s survival hopes.
While much of the squad has struggled for consistency and leadership, a few individuals have continued to stand out. Archie Gray and Mathys Tel are among those who can hold their heads high.
Both youngsters have delivered consistent performances, with Tel in particular fighting for his place after struggling for minutes under Thomas Frank earlier in the season.
A disagreement over his role limited his game time, which led to interest from multiple clubs during the winter window, although no move materialised.

Mathys Tel makes feelings clear on Tottenham future
Mathys Tel’s future had been a talking point earlier in the season, with his agent suggesting that a move away could be beneficial in order to secure regular playing time ahead of the World Cup.
However, since Igor Tudor’s arrival, the French Under-21 international has been given more opportunities, which appears to have shifted his immediate focus.
Despite expected loan interest from clubs in France, journalist Ben Jacobs has now provided an encouraging update on the player’s stance.
Jacobs reports that Tel is not actively exploring a move away from Tottenham this summer, despite links with a return to Germany.
Instead, the attacker is said to be fully focused on helping Spurs in their fight for survival before making any decision on his future at the end of the season.
It is also understood that Tel feels a strong sense of responsibility toward the club’s current situation, regardless of whether he ultimately stays in North London beyond the summer.
Should Mathys Tel start on the left for Tottenham next season?
Despite Tel’s current stance, it remains unclear what the situation will look like in the summer transfer window.
Tottenham are expected to explore options for a more established left winger, which could limit Tel’s role even if he remains at the club.
There is also internal competition to consider. Wilson Odobert will return at some point next season from a long-term injury, while Xavi Simons offers another option on the left, particularly with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski capable of operating centrally.
That said, Spurs supporters will appreciate Tel’s commitment to the club during a difficult period.
This comes amid reports that one Tottenham player told teammates he was ‘not too concerned’ about relegation, believing he would secure a move away from the club in the summer, a claim later dismissed by Micky Van de Ven.
