The half-time ratings for Tottenham’s penultimate pre-season encounter of the summer are in as Spurs lead Hoffenheim 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Hoffenheim
Antonin Kinsky – The Spurs shotstopper was barely threatened for most of the match, although Hoffenheim did have a few sighters, even hitting the crossbar. Overall, Kinsky has been comfortable and has looked great with the ball at his feet. 7.
Archie Gray – Playing at right-back this afternoon, Gray has had to pick his moments to join in attack and overlap Mikey Moore. He has been more conservative but at the same time has looked defensively solid. 6.
Jan Paul van Hecke – Spurs have played with a swagger and composure at the back, often looking to play out from deep. Jan Paul van Hecke has been at the heart of those moves, with the Dutchman frequently picking forward passes to help Tottenham get on the front foot. 7.
Marcos Senesi – He and his centre-back partner van Hecke have been on the same wavelength with their passing. Senesi has been just as composed when receiving from Kinsky and often looks to play driving balls into midfield. 7.
Andy Robertson – The full-back found himself high up the pitch most times when Tottenham were on the attack. He also offered a threat in the opposition half with his first-time delivery. Robertson could well have managed an early assist after flashing a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but Richarlison could not get on the end of it. The new signing eventually got his assist after his cross was met by Richarlison. 8.
Sandro Tonali – He has looked solid in the middle of the park at defensive midfield, often getting on the ball and keeping things ticking. He also made a few defensive contributions and was not shy to join in attack whenever the opportunity arose. He played a big part in the opener after driving into Hoffenheim’s half from deep. 8.
Lucas Bergvall – The midfielder saw plenty of the ball in the first half and showed great composure when receiving from Kinsky as Spurs looked to play out from the back under pressure. His quick feet got him out of trouble and allowed Tottenham to progress play. He did manage to test Oliver Baumann with a long-range effort, but the Hoffenheim shotstopper was equal to it. 7.
Conor Gallagher – He is the most advanced of the midfield three and has the licence to roam and get on the ball wherever he likes. He did not create many clear-cut chances in the first half but linked up well with those around him. 6.
Mikey Moore – The youngster proved to be a bright spark on the right for Tottenham, making several driving runs into the box. He was not afraid to mix things up, going on the outside and also coming inside when taking on his man. Moore created a really good chance later in the half with a lovely ball across goal, but Richarlison and Mathys Tel failed to connect. 7.
Richarlison – He could easily have scored three goals in the opening half had he been a bit quicker to react to crosses into the box from Robertson and Moore. However, later in the half he seemed to have found his finishing touch, scoring from Robertson’s cutback. 8.
Mathys Tel – The Frenchman started brightly but had little room to work with as Hoffenheim often doubled up on him. He did have a half chance after Moore flashed a dangerous ball into the box from the right, but Tel could not quite reach it at the back post. 6.
