The half-time player ratings for Tottenham’s Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool are in as the Lilywhites head into the break 1-0 down.
Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Liverpool
Martin Dubravka – The shot-stopper was forced into a really good save in the first half after Koumas went through on goal and looked destined to score. He was eventually beaten by a Mac Allister strike from outside the box. 6.
Archie Gray – Playing as a full-back, but he has barely overlapped Kudus and he has been given a more conservative role. He did hold his own against Gakpo down on the right of defence. 5.
Tosin Adarabioyo – He managed to put in a crucial tackle when Koumas was through on goal, preventing the forward from threatening Dubravka. 6.
Marcos Senesi – The centre-back has held his own well in defence and could barely be blamed for the goal conceded. He has dealt with crosses into the box and did manage to play a good ball forward for Udogie, one that, had the full-back gotten under control, would have seen him in. He managed several blocks and tackles to prevent the Liverpool attackers from going through on goal. But he has also been sloppy with the ball at times when Spurs have looked to play out, inviting the Liverpool press. 5.
Destiny Udogie – He has offered so much creativity down on the left and is very positive in attack, often looking to overlap and get beyond Tel. The full-back created the best chance of the half after his cutback found Bergvall in the box. He created another big chance after getting on the overlap and putting in a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but Kudus could not convert. 8.
Lucas Bergvall – The midfielder has been covering both boxes really well in that number eight position in midfield. He has got a few recovering tackles in midfield to stop Liverpool attacks and also had the best chance for Spurs after meeting Udogie’s cutback, but fired it centrally, making it easy for the Liverpool goalkeeper. Tottenham should have been a goal up. He led a counter-attack deep into the first half with a lovely driving run before playing a well-weighted pass to Udogie, who should have had an assist had Kudus scored. 7.
Rodrigo Bentancur – The midfielder has been very mobile in the centre of the park and has been given the licence to go wherever the ball is, both in and out of possession. He has covered a lot of ground, that is for sure. He is often the out ball when Spurs look to play out and helps connect the midfield and the attack. 7.
Conor Gallagher – Looks to be offering some creative threat in attack as he has the freedom to drift about in the final third. But he has not offered any creativity so far in the half. 5.
Mathys Tel – Not many attacks have come down his side, but the few times he has seen the ball, he has looked to link up with Udogie. He did have a chance to drive at the Liverpool defence after a counter, but his final ball, which should have played Udogie in, was overhit. 4.
Omar Marmoush – The forward has barely had a sniff at goal in the first half and has had very few touches as well. He did manage a shot from a free kick, but it was well over. He was booked in the first half. 5.
Mohammed Kudus – He has linked up well with Gallagher on the right of attack for Tottenham when the midfielder underlaps. However, it has also not been an easy battle with Milos Kerkez down on that side of the field. The wide forward did have a good chance after he met Udogie’s cross in the box, but he fired over. It should have been the equaliser. 5.
