Tottenham first team star ruled out for a month

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has been ruled out until January 2019 after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix (Guardian).

The central midfielder was not available for the match against Burnley yesterday due to abdominal pain.

The player last appeared off the bench in Spurs’ historic point away from home at the Camp Nou last week.

Eric Dier has been a vital member of the midfield team through this impressive start to the season.

Spurs are currently enjoying their best ever start to a Premier League campaign after 17 games.

What Spurs also lose with Eric’s injury is a sense of versatility, as the player can cover midfield, centre back, and even right back.

This could have come in handy for Tottenham during this festive period, especially with injuries to Serge Aurier, Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, Juan Foyth, Davinson Sanchez, and Jan Vertonghen.

Tottenham issued a message to fans on the club website to explain Dier’s current situation and expected return date.

They said: “He will now undergo a period of recovery before commencing rehabilitation and it is expected he will return to training with the squad in January. Along with our medical staff, we wish to thank the NHS for their excellent treatment of Eric.”
