Tottenham’s plans for the summer window may have to change completely after Xavi Simons tore his ACL against Wolves.

Xavi produced what was arguably his best performance in a Tottenham shirt against Brighton, and the Dutchman was expected to play an important part in the Lilywhites’ quest to stay up.

Roberto De Zerbi even admitted that he had a special connection with the attacking midfielder, and suggested that the best was yet to come from the 22-year-old.

However, it has now been confirmed that Xavi will remain sidelined for the rest of 2026 after picking up an ACL injury at the Molineux Stadium, which comes as a bitter blow to Spurs’ survival hopes.

Tottenham may have to completely change their plans for the summer window

It has now been revealed by TEAMtalk that the former RB Leipzig man’s injury has not just affected Spurs’ quest to stay up but also their summer plans.

The outlet reveals that the Lilywhites had been making two different plans for the summer window, depending on whether they remained in the Premier League or not.

One of those involved cashing in Xavi, with the 22-year-old being identified as a sellable asset due to his market value and the interest that he has attracted.

However, Tottenham will now have to change their plans as a potential summer sale of the Netherlands international is now ‘effectively off the table’, given the severity of his injury.

Spurs hopeful regarding James Maddison’s return

James Maddison has been named in Tottenham’s matchday squad for their last two games against Brighton and Wolves, but he has not made it into the field as of yet.

In the lead-up to the Wolves clash, De Zerbi revealed that the 29-year-old Spurs star was still feeling some pain in his knee.

However, this latest update by TEAMtalk claims that Tottenham are hopeful that Maddison will return to fitness in the final weeks of the season.

The club are hoping that the former Leicester man could offer them creativity and control in the middle of the park to compensate for the loss of Xavi.
