Not even a blip anymore

51

Last week i said we had a ‘blip’. This week i am saying we are in real trouble.

A disastrous result at Liverpool last week, we have 2 inept and pathetic performances against Inter Milan and Fulham.

I mentioned in one of my first articles on the site that on so many occasions when we have had things ‘In our own hands’, we blow it every time. I was castigated by many for saying that, but the fact remains it’s true.

Again this season, we had ‘everything’ in our own hands to finish in the top 4. Once again, we have blown it from our own hands and it is not now in our own hands. We are now, ‘as in the past’ relying on others to drop points and it is now more hope than anything else.

I was very disappointed today with AVB in his team selection, playing 5 defenders instead of having an extra striker in a match that we really needed to win.

I am sure I will get a lot of abuse again for being pessimistic, but that is the feeling now amongst many supporters. How many of you left early today – there were thousands of empty seats with some 10 minutes still left to play.

I said at the start of the season in my first article I didn’t think we would finish in the top 4 and the abuse I got was overwhelming. I still hope I am totally wrong, but I have to say to all of you who look at the site we are in real danger now of not making the top 4 and yet another year not being in the Champions League.

So as I said, it’s not a ‘blip’ anymore, it is a real problem we have.

  1. Very good piece Cheeky, and i agree with you 100%. As you say, once more it is not in our hands anymore, and if arsenal win their games in hand which they probably will, we will be in 5th and on the ropes. To play only one striker from the start in a must win game against Fulham leaves a lot of questions to be answered.
I dont think AVB has lost the plot, but his players are certainly not helping him. I think they were disgraceful in the last couple of games. I think we will struggle to get 4th now, but like you, i hope i am wrong.

      • Harry got the blame last year,if we mess it up again,we can hardly blame AVB………….PLAYERS have to man up now and finish the job,its not over until may.

Mr levy should of back AVB in january with money for striker…………now were paying for it.

  2. Once again you say it as it is and i commend you for it. I am very concerned about our position now. We were all awash with victory over arsenal and thinking it was all done and dusted. You said at the time we should be careful and again you were right. I am sick and tired at how many times we have things in our own hands and blow it every single time. We never learn, I also dont think we will finish 4th now, so i think its the Europa Leage or nothing for us again this season. Arsenal will unfortunately be laughing at us again as they have done for the past 18 years. It really hurts.

  3. A repeat of last year . We look awful I'm gutted no chance of top four this season . Yet again we look like idiots laughing stock of London . With great power comes great responsibility , with being a spurs fan comes great disappointment . Thanks spurs

  4. It is still in our hands, 4 points above Arsenal who have one game in hand. Unless they’ve changed the rules, the maximum points you can get from a game is 3!

    • there's optimism and there's stupidity. We look shocking and have done for many games. Without Bale's injury time winners where would be? How many points do you foresee us getting against City, Chelsea, Swansea, Stoke & Everton? do the math with Arse's fixtures and get back to me.

  5. If Spurs win their remaining games then they finish at least 4th. So it is in our own hands. Although we will be lucky to win any of the 8 they way we are playing now.

    • If Spurs win their remaining games? What planet are you on? If you are a true Spurs fan you will know in your heart of hearts we've blown it. It's over …accept it, you will sleep easier.

  6. Yes we are in dire straights now. If we cant beat Fulham at home, what chance have we of finishing in the top 4. I was also stunned at the team selection today, it really should have been 4-4-2 and not 5-4-1.
As you say, it's not in our hands anymore but in others. It's such a shame it happens year in year out, but we are Tottenham and used to it. A very disappointed supporter.

  7. I think the silent majority are starting to see their worst fears justified and all credit to you for speaking out. I too predicted this back in November but was shouted down by people who said i was mad, fact is our lofty position lately has been largely due to Bale and lady luck, little else.
Some idiots even predicted we would finish 2nd – fantasists!! 5th or 6th I predict which might just give levy the shock he needs, if not might i recommend that device paramedics use to bring dead people back to life?

  8. Agreed. DL has caused this problem. It's been common knowledge we need a quality Striker and yet this appears to have gone unnoticed by DL.
Come end of the season we will be left shaking our heads in disbelief. Come the beginning of next we will be without CL and more importantly, we will be another top player gone to a "bigger" club.

  9. Man city .chelsea.swans and Everton we can't beat Fulham at home no hope with Chelsea and city .AVB keeps changing formation and line up .we got no strikers as such Bale can't keep doing it saving our arse time after time .After the window closed and we never got a striker I new it was over, talks of big names coming rubbish ,if a players over 15 mill we ain't got a hope.I no were a buying selling club but when were this close you would think an investment would be made .middle of the table please no expectations back to the good old days

    • sadly i agree with you. the last few seasons have been a real chance to push on with a little investment. The other top clubs have gotten weaker, yet we have failed to do this. In fairness to AVB, he inherited a squad that has a few decent players (AVB and Modric then left) and wasnt allowed to replace with his ideal. He clearly doesn't have any faith in many of our squad and the recent injuries have shown how weak our squad really is. I'm disgusted.

  10. We have a young manager who i think is a good guy still learning his trade but he has got a few badly wrong recently and I hope he learns from this fast. The real problem, in my opinion, is Levy who continues to lack any ambition to take Spurs to the next level. His firm are interested in making money and couldn't give a rat's about the fans or whether Spurs do well on the pitch. Let's keep deluding ourselves that FFP and the new stadium will level the playing field but if we fail to get CL this year we are back to square one, as our only genuine quality will leave – Bale. Likely Lloris and Vertongen will follow in subsequent seasons. FFP is only attractive to those clubs that are either already established, or owners hoping that their own reluctance to spend won't be as exposed under this crappy idea.

Levy out if we fail to get 4th. He has ballsed up too many times. Disgusted lifelong Spurs fan.

    • Remind me who is was who bought Dembele, Siggurdsson, Vertonghen, Lloris, Holtby, Dempsey and Adebayor, again? We were the second highest spenders last summer, behind only Chelsea — where do you imagine the money is going to come from? Adebayor may have turned out to be a waste of a shirt this season, but since we all begged and demanded that Levy sign him on a full-time contract, that's hardly his fault.

Give a little credit where it is due. We don't have billionaires bankrolling our club — we simply couldn't afford another 25m for a top striker these past two windows. We have to secure Champs League again, first, and then we'll have secured the expected revenue.

  12. Terrible result really to cap a terrible week.

Thing is, I'm not surprised. Been expecting the annual Tottenham bottle job and here it is, right on time!

Depressingly amusing watching it all unfold. Look up Tottenham Hotspur in the dictionary and you should find 'grade A bottle jobs'

    So predictable.

    • weak squad so when the few quality players are knackered, we start losing. we can only hope the goons play worse than we do but I think we have given them momentum already through the last few weeks performances.

  13. I thought today was reminiscent of the quality of football we saw at the start of season: poor tactics from the manager and a gaggle of headless chickens unaware of their roles and responsibilities. The decision to loan out AT to QPR was (IMO) a poor call and had fate not intervened, the decision to offload Dawson wouldn't have been checked. The Milan tactics were awful and Jol handed AVB a lesson in organisation today. What I am saying is that AVbs judgement is suspect.

Given that we have the toughest run-in this game was one of the must-wins. A total cock up from start to finish.

  14. I don't mind losing its not being able to come back and play with urgency and passion,.im so disappointed with Ade and Defoe ones lazy the other greedy ,the times that simple pass would give us a goal but no a shot ,just hold up the ball Ade {sorry he was half my size} I'm sure the studs on his boots are 10 inch long the time it takes him to move from one spot to another,he reminds me of a tree from lord of the rings. A creative midfielder a striker with passion who wants to win the ball and score 5goals every game ,a team that doesn't want to hold on to the one goal lead, and will close down players .i believe a team is built over time with understanding of the players around you and where they are, if you keep changing it we look like we did against Inter?

  15. Just wondering if there are spurs fans on this site, are we not meant to be positive and get behind our team. Plastic fans booing at today's game.
We are not going to win every match and sometimes its just not our day.
O.K it was not our day and we looked disjointed, but last time we had a few loses in a row we went on a 12 game unbeaten run,so why not try and be positive and get behind our team like most good fans do

    • this is a site where fans give their opinion. if you want to hear that everything is great, you should stick to Disney. We have an opportunity to be great but the powers that be at our club are holding us back and that is pretty clear to everyone. I feel very sorry for AVB and it won't get better when Bale goes at the end of the year. We invested the Modric/VDV cash and I dont think we adequately replaced them and that would appear to have been a Levy decision. Power-hungry a******.

      • Its not wanting to hear everything is great and living in fairytale land, its trying to look at the positives.
For one we are still in fourth and even if arsenal win there game in hand we will still be in fourth.
So we have a tough few games ahead but we are capable of winning some of these.
On the note of levy he is power hungry but at least the club is not in danger of a massive debt and when the new stadium is finished then the funds will be there to bring in top players(hopefully).
So all in all champions league is in our hands and the future looks good

        • To be adam, the future only looks good if we get CL football. If we dont it's back to mediocrity, by losing our best players who want CL football and buying in those who are'nt good enough for CL football.

    • we boo out of frustration mate not cos were plastic. we played awful, tactics awful, no passion, no shape and no chances plus we all know that them scummy ba*****s will all be loving it. you say plastic fan but i bet ive been more games than you in the last 10 years so i know that i can boo, cheer or stay silent or whatever i want!

      • You may well have been to more games and yes you have the right to act the way you wish, just don't see it being very productive booing at players that want the same as the fans, and some days you have a bad day at the office and after the long run of good results just cant see why you feel the need to boo.
In all honesty i was not happy with how we played against fulham but hopefully it was just a bad day
I apologise if you feel offended by being called plastic

  16. The blame in my opinion falls at the feet of our chairman. The man loves the power he has at the club and as long as he chooses to run rough shot over each manager in the transfer market, year in year out, we’ll never be a top four club. He should have backed AVB in the winter tranfer window and given us at least another option of bringing in another striker rather than keep playing these games of last minute poker with other chairmen, who normally just end up laughing at his insulting and pointless offers. Wake up Mr levy and thank you for another wasted season.

  17. I've had stick all day from Arsenal fans,I had to remind em they weren't really a north London club they just moved there.i love the spurs but we are the fans we spend money on tickets shirts alsorts and if not for us our club would be nothing,so we need to have our opinion,we don't get a choice of who comes or goes or who stays DL and money dictate that all we have is our say.and if we disapprove of players and managers we must say our piece, maybe we will be heard.Lets be realistic our chances of top four now are more than slim looking at the run in,today's game at home a must win AVB made a big mistake he's been lucky so far we've scrapped through games ,first leg Inter we were outstanding best performance of season what happens we can't repeat it .last season Newcastle played great went on awful run,it's as if we are overcome by a good performance and lose our bottle, all we need is a couple of players to have a winning incentive to get the team believing, but we don't seem to have them like the big clubs do,that never say lose attitude ,(Blimey I'm going on ) anyway hope we ain't blown it This is our last chance Arsenal have big money next season lets hope we still have big hearts

  18. I can't believe the pessimism here. Spurs are still in fourth position, and as said above, if they win every game then they will finish at least fourth, and most likely higher. How, then, is it not in Spurs' hands?

I'm an Arsenal fan, but I recognise and appreciate Spurs as a good team and as worthy opponents. You need to get behind your team when they are going through a bad patch, not throw up your hands in self-indulgent despair.

    • If they win every game. Yeah ok, brilliant einstein. So you see maximum points against Chelsea, Man City, Stoke, Swansea & Everton? Its not about pessimism – its about REALISM!

  20. I think you're being realistic not pessimistic.

I now know where the term 'cock it up' ones from. It's from the 'Cockerel' on the shirt!

    • i like lennon has he scores important goals when he does score that is. he is exicting but always feel theres more to come from him but rarely does he deliver. anyway always think that its strange that as soon as he is out of the team he becomes such a better player than when he plays! still itrs a funny old game

  21. Jazz Hands in the air….

    "Oh When the Spuuuuuuuuurs

    Go Sliding dooooown

Oh When The Spurs go sliding down

We're gunner beeeeeeee back in the Champions Leeeeeeague

Oh When the Spuuuuurs go sliding dooooooown…"

He who laughs last, laughs loudest Spuddies.

We laughed so much last season, but this years laughter will be the loudest ever!

Your BEST ever season will not be better than our WORST ever!!!!

St Totteringhams Day is coming in April – You are all invited! xxx

  22. We'll be lucky to pick up more than a few points in the remaining games. Looking at the fixtures , we have 8 games left, 23 points of which I think we'll get 11 or 12 max. Arsenal have one game more to play, 9, that's 27 points from which they will get about 20. Call me pessimistc all you want, I prefer to just acknowledge I'm a realistic spurs fan. Every season we wobble exactly at this point, it's a template.

  23. Shut up you tarts. What's the matter with you all? whinging whining bunch of nancies. I remember all this rubbish last time and we went on the unbeaten run. Our team has just run out of steam in recent games. They put a huge amount of effort into the first Milan game. They played really well against an in form Liverpool side but were undone by a couple of tired passes. The second Milan game was granted a bit crap. We tried to go for the first goal to kill the game off and when that didn't work we struggled to adapt our play to see the tie off. We will learn from that! The game against Fulham was a crap game…one to forget. The saving grace is that we have the International break. A chance for the players to take their minds off the past week or so and then return with a new focus. AVB acknowledged that they got the tactics wrong. He took all the blame and praised his team for their effort. He will prepare the team well for the coming games. My only fear is that they are burnt out. We train hard as a team and we work hard in every game. I fear we may be reaching the tipping point in terms of fitness, so it will be vitally important that we rediscover how to keep hold of the football, so we don't have to chase about too much to get it back.

At the end of the season, we will be where we deserve to be. I think we deserve to be in 4th place currently and despite the result, we deserve to be in the latter stages of the Europe League.

  25. Fuck me you love a good moan don't you. We're rocking and rolling and every article gets 2 comments at best, but as soon as we have a wobble you're all burning your shirts and wailing and gnashing your teeth like a big girls blouse.
Remember when Adebayor and Defoe were switched early on in the season and you all booed heartily at AVB? Yeah now we're stuck with the Togolese statue up front and the results are tailing off. Be careful what you wish for.
Without Sandro, Lennon, Kaboul or a genuine striker on the bench, and with injuries to Dawson and Bale with Walker hideously out of form, any team would find it harder.
    Keep faith.
    COYS

  26. Thank you Simon and one or two others.
What do these sunny-day Spurs fans want – for our manager and players to give this season up as a lost cause?
A reminder of 2009/10: February and we have just had a run of 6pts from 6 games including draws with Hull, Birmingham, AV and defeat to Wolves. What next? This is what- a run of 9 wins in 11 including wins over Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea (after FA Cup s-f defeat to Portsmouth) and famously Man City.
This is a transitional season and I am very satisfied with the progress of a new manager and several new faces. They all need our support when results are not going our way – it's very easy to support a team when they're winning.
AVB has done a good job so far and is with us for the long-term. I am sure money will be available in the summer and I believe Daniel Levy is doing a great job of keeping us on a stable financial path. This has secured a fantastic new training facility and will soon deliver a new stadium. He has done this with much smaller revenue (due mainly to small stadium and lack of CL). But the progress off the field over the past several years has gone hand in hand with progress of the team.
Let's get behind our young manager and his youngish squad and send them a message that we believe in where they are going and are willing to support them.
Take a lead from fans of Portsmouth – 2nd from bottom of League One and second highest average attendance. I bet they are still behind their team.

    • You and Simon are a couple of pricks. You go on about being 'Tired'. These are supposed to be professionals. They do at most 1 1/2 hours a day training, play golf all afternoon and play 2 games a week. And you two idots complain theybare tired. What about the 'Normal' guys who work 40 hours a week, they dont complain about being tired. Get a life you two,, dont make excuses, at this moment in time we are simply not good enough.

  27. This is precisely what happens when you have a Chairman who time after time fails to sign the payers the manager needs. We have needed top strikers for years yet no-one arrives. We have no back-up for Walker and never properly replaced Modric.

These were basic errors. The squad has been left weak and understrength.

  28. STay the f**k away from WHL THE LOT OF U WE HAVE GONE 12GAMES UNDEAFEATED WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG
AND AS FOR THE ARSEWIPE GOONERS WHO WONT WEAR THERE SHIRTS TO WHL
    PATHETIC TRY!!!

    • As for what you say about the gooners 1950 you are right. But you are a cretin with the rest of what you say. Yes we went 12 games undefeated but then we lose 3 on the trot. I bet you are one of the prats that never actually goes to WHL and knows fuck all about soccer and just enjoys arguments.

  29. lets keep the faith boys! we can't give up. we must finish above them lot and get into the CL. lets judge levy at the end of the season. you can't knock him for what his done for us. i know its frustrating not buying a quality striker and i have personally giving up looking forward to a transfer window where we do but we have to realise that a quality striker commands a big transfer fee and huge wages which with our capacity and standing in the game aint has easy has just getting our chequebbok out. levy thinks about the bigger picture and doesnt take risk and anyway knowing our luck we will pay out a load of cash and they will either get injured or not work out!

  30. Yes, it was a poor performance…frankly they looked knackered.

Come on supporters….how about showing some support?

Remember when we qualified for the CL…things looked pretty grim after the semi-final loss, then we beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City during a very hard run-in.

    Show a little belief FFS!!!
