Tottenham forward to be assessed ahead of Chelsea game following injury scare

Tottenham Hotspur had to endure the frustration of a North London derby defeat to Arsenal yesterday and also lost the services of Timo Werner during the match.

The German was arguably one of the better performers in a Spurs shirt during the opening stages of the Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however, he was forced off on the half hour mark with what looked to be a hamstring injury and had to receive medical treatment on the pitch.

Werner was replaced by Brennan Johnson, who had limited impact on the left hand side following his introduction but looked more comfortable after he was shifted to the right during the second period following Ange Postecoglou’s reshuffle which included Son playing on the left and Richarlison in a central role.

The Evening Standard report that Werner will now be assessed ahead of Thursday night’s rescheduled fixture against his former side Chelsea and it is currently unknown whether he will be able to be considered for selection at Stamford Bridge.

Will Timo Werner be fit to face Chelsea?

Destiny Udogie has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery and his place was filled by Ben Davies, who endured a tough afternoon up against Saka.

Oliver Skipp missed the match against Arsenal with what Postecoglou described in Friday’s press conference as a ‘small knock’.

Manor Solomon, Fraser Forster and Ryan Sessegnon are all long-term absentees and will miss the remainder of the season.

It’s unlikely that if Werner has suffered a tweak in his hamstring, he would be fit in time to face Chelsea.

It would be good to see Ange revert to playing Son back on the left and Richarlison down the middle (if he is fit enough) following his recent spell out, with Kulusevski on the right.
