Tottenham have big box to tick for Thomas Frank replacement, rules out some candidates

Tottenham Hotspur are clear in their mind about one box that needs to be ticked for their ‘ideal’ Thomas Frank replacement.

Various candidates continue to be named in the media as potential Frank replacements as the Dane fights to hold onto his job.

Reports over the last few days have indicated that Tottenham will pull the plug on the Frank project if the team moves any closer to the relegation zone. Fortunately, the 2-2 draw against Man City has likely bought Frank some good faith with fans, for now.

However, one characteristic that the Spurs hierarchy wants in their next managerial appointment rules out many of the names linked with the Tottenham hotseat.

Tottenham board prioritise Premier League experience in Thomas Frank replacement

Football Insider reveal that while the Dane has the support of the Spurs board so far, the club are putting plans in place to identify a replacement for the former Brentford boss in case it is needed.

Spurs have concluded that their ‘ideal’ candidate to replace Frank would be one who is experienced in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites are prioritising Premier League pedigree in any potential appointment as they want to make sure that the incoming manager can cope with the demands and pressure of the English top flight.

Which candidate does this rule out for Spurs and who does it favour?

Tottenham have reportedly held internal talks about a move for Xavi Hernandez, but if this latest update is to be believed, he is not an ideal candidate due to his lack of experience in English football.

Spurs legend Robbie Keane has also been mooted as a Frank replacement, but the Irishman’s inexperience may count against his candidacy.

It was previously reported that Andoni Iraola, Mauricio Pochettino and Oliver Glasner are Tottenham’s top targets, but none of them may be available until the end of the season.
