Tottenham have three or four names on list to replace Hugo Lloris – Reports Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that Tottenham Hotspur have up to four names on their list for who can replace current number-one goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the summer.

Lloris has been with Tottenham for over a decade now, racking up 440 appearances for the North London side over the years (Transfermarkt). The Frenchman has been Spurs captain since 2015, but has come under fire this season for a number of costly errors.

In fact, Lloris has made three errors directly leading to goals this season (PremierLeague.com), which is more than any other player in the Premier League.

The most recent of these high-profile mistakes was a particularly heinous error in the defeat to Arsenal, with Lloris tipping a Bukayo Saka shot into the back of the net. Although, he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory at times against Man City either.

While manager Antonio Conte insists Lloris is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world (Football.London), it is thought Spurs will step up their efforts to find a long-term replacement for the 36-year-old (Daily Mail).

The report from the Daily Mail earlier this week put forward Jordan Pickford, David Raya, and Robert Sanchez as the targets Spurs are looking to bring in. This tracks with Romano’s latest comments, who claims the Lilywhites have three to four names on their shortlist for the goalkeeper position.

He said: “Spurs are also considering a new goalkeeper. There are three or four names on the list at Tottenham. But they’re focused on January window, it’s too early to say who’s going be the new goalkeeper. Full focus is on January.”

Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more apparent that it’s time for Hugo Lloris to step down as our number-one goalkeeper and I can’t wait to see who we bring in to replace him. Hugo has been a loyal servant to the club over the years, and has saved us more times than he’s cost us, but those mistakes are just too frequent now sadly.
