Tottenham are keen on adding a new centre-back to their roster in 2026, but Bayern Munich have entered the race for one of their top targets.
Marc Guehi has long been on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, with their interest dating back to the winter window when the club submitted a bid for the Crystal Palace defender.
The winter offer was turned down by Palace, who made it clear they would not part ways with one of their key players midway through the campaign.
Despite the rejection, Thomas Frank’s side returned for the England international during the just-closed summer window, determined to strengthen their defensive options.
However, Guehi opted against a move to Spurs, making it clear that his preference was a transfer to Liverpool rather than a switch to north London.
The 25-year-old appeared close to securing that desired move to Anfield, yet the deal collapsed on deadline day as Palace failed to identify a suitable replacement before the window closed, forcing them to hold on to their star man.
It was reported last week that Tottenham have overtaken Liverpool in the race for Marc Guehi in what would be a shock twist ahead of the January window, but the Lilywhites have even more competition.

Bayern Munich and Tottenham circle Marc Guehi
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport now reports that Bayern Munich have taken concrete steps in their pursuit of Marc Guehi.
It is believed that Sporting director Max Eberl is said to be a huge admirer of the player, and initial discussions have already taken place with his representatives regarding a potential move.
According to Plettenberg, Bayern are considering signing the defender on a free transfer in 2026, though that may depend on what happens with Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae.
The German champions are understood to be closely monitoring Guehi’s situation as his contract continues to run down.
Plettenberg shared on X: “Bayern are already looking concretely at Marc Guehi. Max Eberl is a big admirer, and initial talks with the player’s representatives have already taken place. Bayern are interested in a free transfer in 2026, but that depends on what happens with Upamecano and Kim. There is competition as Liverpool and Barcelona are seriously involved, and Real Madrid are also in the race.”
Spurs face tough competition for Guehi
Marc Guehi has been in outstanding form for Crystal Palace this season, contributing a goal and helping his side keep five clean sheets across all competitions.
His consistency and composure at the back have only enhanced his reputation, making him one of the Premier League’s most sought-after defenders.
With his contract due to expire next summer, the prospect of signing Guehi on a free has drawn significant attention from several top clubs, which could make Tottenham’s pursuit increasingly difficult.
Having already turned down a move to Spurs during the last transfer window, and with elite European sides now entering the race, Tottenham may need to explore alternative defensive targets as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his back line further.
