Report: Spurs still keen on defender who admits his future is uncertain; could be available for £12.9m

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing another central defender in the summer transfer window and have identified Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s Koki Machida as a potential target, according to Voetbal Krant.

The Belgian news outlet claim that Tottenham are keen to land the Japanese international this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his backline.

Micky van de Ven has cemented his place as Tottenham’s first choice on the left-hand side of the central pair alongside Cristian Romero following his move from Wolfsburg in August.

Tottenham did add to their backline in January with the arrival of Radu Dragusin from Genoa, with the Romanian seeing limited game time due to the partnership of van de Ven and Romero.

Tottenham are reported to have wanted to buy Machida last summer and are still keen on his services ahead of next season.

Tottenham are keen to sign Koki Machida to bolster defence

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise are looking for a €15m (£12.9m) transfer fee for the left-sied central defender.

Speaking to Voetbal Krant about his future, he said: “I know there are many articles about me in the newspapers. I’m not sure if I will still be at Union next season, I’m not sure. I’m mainly focusing on the end of the season with the opportunity to become champion.”

Machida scored the winning goal to help his side beat Toby Alderweireld’s Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Cup on Thursday evening.

Football Insider claimed earlier this month that Tottenham are prepared to listen to offers for long-serving central defender Ben Davies, who also operates on the left-hand side.

Davies has been a solid servant, however, with Ange Postecoglou preferring to play a high-risk style of football, the Welshman lacks the pace to cover when Tottenham lose possession.
