Tottenham Hotspur are not allowed to sign new players for the next five days

This summer’s transfer window is unique as it will happen in two phases, with the initial smaller phase officially coming to an end on Tuesday evening. Here is all that you need to know about when it will reopen and how long Tottenham will have to complete their business.

It has been a quiet transfer window for Spurs on the player front, but it has been anything but when it comes to changes to the management, backroom staff and at board level, with several departing and some new faces coming through the door.

In the meantime, Tottenham’s Premier League rivals have been doing some business, and the Lilywhites will thus be keen to get started on reinforcing their squad ahead of the new campaign.

However, they will have to wait for another week before completing any signings, given the way this transfer window is structured.

When does the transfer window close and when does it reopen?

It was decided by the authorities that the transfer window would be open from June 1 until June 10 so that clubs competing in the Club World Cup had a chance to sign players before the competition gets underway.

According to Sky Sports, the window closed at 7 pm on Tuesday evening rather than the usual 11 pm deadline, which means that signings cannot be registered over the next six days.

It will reopen again on Monday, June 16 and carry on until Monday, September 1, leaving Tottenham Hotspur and other clubs two and a half months to make their desired changes to the squad ahead of the 2025-26 season.

What does this mean for Tottenham’s transfer pursuits?

Although the window closed at 7 pm on Tuesday, clubs were given a two-hour grace period after the window shuts to complete deals as long the paperwork is submitted before the deadline.

That means that Tottenham and other Premier League clubs had until 9 pm on Tuesday to make any signings. With Spurs still failing to get going in the summer market, they will now not be able to register any player until the window reopens on June 16.

Spurs and other clubs around the continent can continue negotiating and working on deals over the next week, but they can only make transfers official when the window reopens again.
