Tottenham Hotspur confirm new long-term contract for Rodrigo Bentancur

Tottenham have finally agreed fresh terms with Rodrigo Bentancur, putting an end to speculation over his future and ensuring that one of their most important midfielders remains at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur spent the summer transfer window strengthening their squad with several key additions across defence, midfield and attack, as Thomas Frank looked to shape a side capable of competing on multiple fronts this season.

The new arrivals have settled quickly, and Spurs, blending established names with their new signings, have managed to begin the campaign with solid performances across all competitions.

However, despite the investment made in new faces, Tottenham have now gone on to secure the long-term future of one of their current stars.

Tottenham confirm Rodrigo Bentancur contract extension

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on what the club have described as a long-term contract.

A club statement read: “We are delighted to announce that Rodrigo Bentancur has signed a new, long-term contract with the Club.

“Since joining us from Juventus in January, 2022, the 28-year-old has made 122 appearances in our colours to date, scoring on nine occasions.”

The 28-year-old was among a handful of Spurs players whose contracts are due to expire next year, leaving the risk of him departing on a free transfer, but the club have now acted to remove any uncertainty.

Bentancur’s extension follows that of Djed Spence, who was handed fresh terms earlier this season after his strong run of form, as the club continues to tie down players who can make an impact in the coming years.

Bentancur’s importance to Tottenham under Frank

Rodrigo Bentancur has been a key part of Tottenham since his move from Juventus, playing a crucial role under Antonio Conte, Ange Postecoglou, and now Thomas Frank, adapting to different systems and showing his quality in possession and out of it.

Although his time in north London has not been without setbacks, particularly injuries that forced him to spend extended periods on the sidelines, he has shown resilience in working his way back to full fitness and re-establishing himself as a central figure in midfield.

Spurs supporters often describe Bentancur as one of the most underrated players in the squad, and with Atletico Madrid previously credited with interest in Bentancur, this contract renewal signals Tottenham’s determination to keep him at the heart of their plans for the foreseeable future.
