Tottenham Hotspur fans mock ‘aggressive’ Antoine Semenyo transfer update

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have reacted with scepticism to the latest reports linking the club with a big-money move for Antoine Semenyo, with many questioning whether the club can fend off competition from top-flight rivals.

Tottenham Hotspur remain admirers of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, and with the winter transfer window approaching, links with the Ghana international have only intensified.

Fabrizio Romano became the latest to report on the pursuit, claiming that Tottenham have spent a lot of time over the last few days “attacking the situation” for Antoine Semenyo and that they have been really aggressive in their attempts to land the player.

The journalist then added that the situation is heating up, with both Manchester United and Manchester City making contact in the last 48 hours, while Liverpool remains interested, meaning a deal will ultimately depend on what Semenyo wants.

Tottenham fans react to latest Antoine Semenyo update

With interest coming from multiple Premier League sides and Spurs still reported to be in pursuit, Tottenham supporters are far from convinced the Lilywhites will actually land Semenyo.

Many took to social media to voice their take on the latest reports, with one fan mocking the terminology used: “Attacking the situation… Is there no end to the new phrases which describe Tottenham doing absolutely nothing at all, which will help them sign a player they supposedly want?”

Others expressed doubt over the club’s ability to compete with the elite, with one supporter stating: “We have never beaten United or City or Liverpool to a signing. Ever. I am 100% not interested in the fake hype here. Would love the new regime to prove me wrong, but this has never happened before and if other teams want him there’s a 1000-1 chance he picks us.”

Some fans even urged the club to look elsewhere, with one stating, “I don’t want him, please get [Iliman] Ndiaye instead,” while another questioned why the club does not move for Omar Marmoush, stating: “Why don’t we go for someone like Marmoush?”

Meanwhile, another believes the latest reports are all PR based: “Chances of this happening was always incredibly low. I just think this is PR to please the supporters. If it isn’t, we will end up with a winger OF THE SAME QUALITY in January. Won’t happen.”

Spurs transfer history fuels supporter doubt

Spurs supporters have every reason to be concerned as this feels all too familiar. The situation with Eberechi Eze in the summer, alongside Morgan Gibbs-White, showed how Tottenham can often struggle to get deals over the line when they are faced with direct rival competition.

That is the same situation here, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all reported to be in the chase for the Bournemouth star.

With that being the case, it is highly unlikely the Ghana international opts for Tottenham, with reports already claiming Semenyo would prioritise a move to one of the current table-toppers.
