Tottenham fans react to huge Andoni Iraola news coming out of Bournemouth

With Ange Postecoglou under pressure and Tottenham Hotspur’s league form faltering, Spurs fans have weighed in on big reports surrounding Andoni Iraola this week.

There have been whispers that Tottenham Hotspur have a shortlist of managers they see as potential successors to Postecoglou should they part ways with the Australian.

Andoni Iraola is one name that has surfaced in recent managerial talks around Tottenham, and it’s hardly surprising given the work he’s done at Bournemouth. The Cherries, once a mid-table side, now have a shot at playing in Europe.

Recent reports have even revealed Iraola’s stance on a potential move to Spurs. Given Tottenham’s patchy league form, Postecoglou’s future appears uncertain, with his job seemingly hinging on Europa League success.

Tottenham fans divided over Andoni Iraola

Naturally, following the recent links, we took to social media to ask Spurs fans if they would like to see Iraola replace the current boss. The responses? Let’s just say opinions were far from unanimous.

One fan was adamant that Iraola’s style would bring more problems than solutions: “No. An intense style of play, which many believe is the reason for so many injuries. Bournemouth had a high injury rate with just one game a week.”

Another, however, was far more optimistic: “Yes, he’s done a wonderful job at Bournemouth. They had major injury worries but, unlike Spurs, he dealt with them and now they’re in the running for European football. I’d welcome him in the morning, bring his team with him and let him have a say in recruitment.”

A different supporter felt there wouldn’t be much difference between Iraola and Postecoglou: “If you want to replace Iraola with Ange, you might as well just stick with Ange. If you’ve watched Bournemouth enough, you’ll know how similar he is to Ange. We’d be in for a repeat of what’s happened since Ange took over.”

Some questioned whether Spurs could even lure him away: “Doubt that. If he gets European football with Bournemouth, there’s no chance we’re getting him now. We’re no longer one of the top clubs. We won’t be able to attract top managers anymore.”

Another supporter wasn’t convinced Iraola would take the job even if it were offered: “Why would he leave Bournemouth to go to Spurs? Three bad games and Spurs fans would be on his back, just like Nuno. And look at him now. Bearing in mind he didn’t win a game at Bournemouth for his first 10 matches – he’d have been sacked already at Spurs.”

The managerial dilemma Spurs face this summer

Tottenham Hotspur fans are clearly not overly enthusiastic about the idea of Iraola coming to north London. And honestly, who can blame us? We’ve endured six painful years of instability, disappointment, and managerial misfires.

However, the unfortunate reality is that the current managerial market isn’t brimming with top-class options, with most elite coaches already in jobs.

Plus, given Spurs’ steady decline, convincing a top-tier manager to take the job is easier said than done.

That said, there is one high-profile manager who has openly expressed his desire to return to the Lilywhites. Just maybe, he could be the right man to steady the ship.
