Tottenham Hotspur player among 40 Golden Boy contenders

Destiny Udoqie has been named among the 40 contenders for the Golden Boy 2022 award.

The Tottenham Hotspur youngster, currently on loan at Serie A side Udinese, made the cut as the nominations were reduced from 60 to 40 names recently.

Udogie became Tottenham’s seventh signing of the summer (TottenhamHotspur.com and is currently spending the season on loan with his former club Udinese.

After an impressive campaign last year, contributing five goals and three assists in 35 games (Transfermarkt), Spurs moved to snap up the youngster in a deal reported to be worth around £15 million (Evening Standard).

The Italian has started this season in blistering form, with two goals in his first five games (Transfermarkt). Udogie has been winning plaudits in Italy for his dynamic displays and attacking involvements.

According to Antonio Conte, Udogie is ‘a player for the future’ and ‘a good prospect for Tottenham’ (Football.London).

Clearly, those in charge of narrowing down the candidates for the Golden Boy award are big fans of Udogie too. As shared by TuttoSport, Destiny Udogie is among the final 40 players nominated for this year’s prize.

The list of candidates will be reduced down to 20 next month before the jury votes for the final time and decides the winner.

Among those on the shortlist currently are Premier League stars like Anthony Elanga of Manchester United, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho of Liverpool, Wilfried Gnonto of Leeds United, and Arsenal’s new signing Marquinhos.

Big names such as Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Gavi, Pedri, and Jamal Musiala also make the list, as the top young talent around Europe competes for the coveted award.

While it’s unlikely that Destiny Udogie will actually win the Golden Boy award, it’s a clear signal of just how highly rated this young talent really is that he makes the final 40 of this list. You only have to look at the level of quality Udogie is among here to see that Spurs have got an incredible prospect on their hands.
