Tottenham Hotspur sack Thomas Frank as head coach after disastrous eight month spell

Tottenham Hotspur have made a decision on Thomas Frank’s future as the club sit just five points off the relegation zone.

Thomas Frank signed a three year contract at Tottenham Hotspur last June and there were early signs that he would have no problem keeping hold of his job for its entire length.

After all, Spurs came within inches of triumphing over PSG in the UEFA Super Cup and earned some impressive Premier League victories, including a 2-0 win at the Etihad in August.

However, Tottenham have been on a downward slope in domestic competitions and they are now in real threat of suffering a first relegation from the English top flight since 1977.

Tottenham part ways with Thomas Frank

With Spurs in the middle of a major crisis, the club have finally made the decision to send Frank packing after a miserable few months.

Tottenham most recently suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United, increasing their spell of more than two months without a victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Frank will officially go down as the worst ever Spurs manager in the Premier League era, as the Dane only managed to achieve a win rate of 26.9 per cent.

Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to take over at Spurs

There has been plenty of discussion about Pochettino in recent weeks. The name of the former Spurs boss has been sung by the club’s supporters and he himself has made comments about what true success looks like for a team of Tottenham’s stature.

However, the fan favourite will not be available to take charge until after the World Cup, as he currently occupies the dugout of the US national team.

In the meantime, Spurs could look to appoint an interim manager to oversee the remainder of the season. Assistant coach John Heitinga is one potential option and Ryan Mason’s name is bound to come up after the former Tottenham caretaker was sacked by West Brom last month.
