Tottenham Hotspur Stadium confirmed as venue for major sporting event

The Atlanta Falcons have confirmed that they will be playing as the home team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during this season’s NFL International Series.

Tottenham’s home ground has been purpose-built to host NFL matches, with an NFL pitch sitting below the retractable football pitch.

The club signed a 10-year deal with the NFL which was set to begin in the 2018/19 season and the first two matches held in 2019 proved to be a tremendous success.

The Oakland Raiders and the Chicago Bears went head to head at the venue before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers played out a high-scoring game, with both matches seeing attendances in excess of 60,000 (Football.London).

However, there were no NFL matches held at the 62,303-capacity venue in 2020 as a result of the pandemic.

The UK government has now provided a roadmap that should see spectators slowly returning to sporting venues over the next few months.

NFL action is thus expected to be back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Autumn, with the Falcons confirming that they will be playing at the venue.

This is good news for the club as the return of NFL matches, other sporting events and concerts to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is crucial in boosting the club’s finances, which has taken a hit due to the pandemic.
