Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to host major event; further event likely to follow

It looks like it is going to be an event-packed summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs’ new home looks earmarked to host multiple high profile events.

The club have announced that Capital’s Summertime Ball, will take place in N17 on Saturday 6 June.

Capital’s Summertime Ball has been staged at Wembley for the last nine years and this year it boasts of names like Mark Ronson, Khalid, Maroon 5, Halsey, Jonas Brothers, Rita Ora, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding.

This event will follow soon after the first concerts at the venue by rock legends Guns N’ Roses, who play two dates on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 May.

Sky Sports report that the stadium is also the ‘front runner’ to stage Anthony Joshua’s homecoming fight with Kubrat Pulev in June.

Joshua has reportedly requested a London venue for the next defence of his WBA, IBF and WBO titles against the Bulgarian. His promoter Eddie Hearn has admitted that the 62,062 capacity stadium is the most likely venue for Joshua’s next fight.

Hearn said: “We’re very close. I had a meeting with AJ last night. We’ve had offers in from the Far East, Middle East, Africa, America, Turkey.

“He’s made it very clear to me, I want to come home. I want to box in London next. I’ve been to Madison Square Garden, I’ve been to Saudi Arabia, bring me home. Forget the other offers, bring me home.

“He wants to fight in London in June. We’re on the verge of making that happen now. Spurs is the front runner and that’s what he’s asked me to do. We’ll be delivering that for him.”

If these events turn out to be a success like the NFL games have, then the stadium will gain the reputation of being the best sporting/concert venue in London. While some Spurs fans may not like this, there is no doubt that the venue is going to be bringing in plenty of revenue for the club.
