Fabrizio Romano reveals Spurs are in talks with lightning fast Bundesliga defender

Tottenham Hotspur have targeted Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven as part of their plans to improve their defence under Ange Postecoglou this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer expert took to social media to reveal that talks have already been held with the Dutch Under-21 international who is represented by the late Mino Raiola’s agency.

Romano has claimed that Spurs have added van de Ven to their transfer shortlist along with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, who also has admirers within the North London outfit.

Van de Ven, operates as a left-sided central defender and is known for his bistering pace, having been recorded as the ninth-fastest player in the Bundesliga last season.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about van de Ven to Tottenham?

Romano said on Twitter: “Tottenham have included Micky van de Ven on their shortlist for the new centre back alongside Edmond Tapsoba as both are appreciated by the club.

“Talks already took place for Wolfsburg’s Dutch centre back represented by team Raiola.

The Dutchman revealed earlier this month that he is happy at the German club, but confessed he would “consider” a switch if a “nice club” make an approach.

He told Voetbal International: “If a nice club comes along that has a clear plan with me, I could consider a move. Then in that sense you are open to it.

“There’s a chance I’ll just play in the Bundesliga after this summer, but there’s also a chance I’ll make a transfer. We’ll see. Just finish this season first.”

The 22-year-old made 36 appearances for the German side last season across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists (transfermarkt).

Tottenham desperately need pace on the left side of their defence with Ben Davies and recent loanee Clement Lenglet both not blessed as being the quickest of defenders which caused issues last season with the likes of Brentford having too easily got in behind the backline to devastating effect.

With Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol out of reach, Tottenham need to look further down at who could be the next brightest left-sided talent and Tapsoba or van de Ven could fit the bill.
