Tottenham inquire about Leon Goretzka, decision expected in ‘hours’ amid competition

Tottenham Hotspur have brought forward their interest in a highly decorated centre-midfielder and are now battling a La Liga club for his signature ahead of Monday’s deadline.

With the transfer deadline now fast approaching, Spurs fans will be hoping that the club have a late surprise up their sleeve in what has been an uninspiring window so far.

Some sources have suggested that another midfielder could potentially arrive at N17 before the window slams shut.

Just a few days ago, it was revealed that Tottenham had expressed an interest in landing Leon Goretzka, who is expected to leave Bayern Munich when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Tottenham make Leon Goretzka advances after Atletico Madrid

It now appears that the Bayern star could potentially exit the Allianz Arena in the next few days rather than in the summer.

Marca journalist Matteo Moretto has now revealed that after Atletico Madrid expressed an interest in Goretzka, Spurs have also launched an inquiry over a late deal for the midfielder.

He suggested that Bayern are expected to make a final decision on the 30-year-old’s future over the next few hours.

Moretto wrote on X: “Not only is Atlético de Madrid interested in Leon Goretzka. In the last few hours, Tottenham has also inquired about the German footballer. The Madrid club is looking for a midfielder who can raise the level, also in terms of personality and leadership.

“It’s still not clear if Bayern Munich will let him leave now. In the next few hours, the German club will make a decision about the future of Leon Goretzka, whose contract expires in June.”

Why Spurs may have an advantage in Goretzka transfer race

If the Bundesliga giants do decide to let the German international leave, the Lilywhites may have an advantage over Atletico in the race.

That is because Spurs have a strong relationship with Bayern, with the two clubs having traded several players over recent years.

Additionally, while Tottenham have sealed qualification to the final 16 of the Champions League, Atletico will be involved in a playoff, which may play a role in Goretzka’s decision.
