Tottenham ‘insider’ expects goalkeeper to leave club – Could be in January

Tottenham ‘insider’ John Wenham has revealed that he expects young goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi to leave the club either in January or upon the conclusion of his contract in the summer.

The 20-year-old had been a prominent starter in goal for Tottenham’s Under-23 side at the beginning of the campaign, but has missed the last six Premier League 2 games.

Oluwayemi’s sudden absences have coincided with reports linking him with a move to Roma, with Jose Mourinho said to hold a keen interest after including him in various first-team training sessions during his Spurs tenure.

Wenham, though, has put the Nigeria international’s displacement in the reserves down to recent overseas interest and doesn’t expect him to be a Spurs player come the end of the season, tipping him to even sign a pre-contract agreement with another side in January.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “One player to look out for is Joshua Oluwayemi. He’s a goalkeeper who has already had a call-up to the senior Nigeria squad this year.

“He also had a loan spell at Maidstone last year. There was talk in the Evening Standard back in October that Roma wanted him.

“Clearly, he impressed Mourinho when he was here. It is very noticeable that since those reports came out, he has been replaced in the Under-23s.

“Thimothee Lo-Tutala has been playing instead. That’s telling, for me. On football merits alone, I’m fully behind that decision. Lo-Tutala is the number one for the France Under 19 side.

“I very much expect Oluwayemi to leave Tottenham. It could be in January if a pre-contract deal can be agreed. If that was to happen I would have no problem with that at all.”

There isn’t much else Spurs can do if Oluwayemi wants to leave with the window for him to begin talks with other clubs just around the corner. For Mourinho to like him so much, it means he has a good attitude which could be a loss to Spurs if he does end up departing the club.
