Tottenham insider thinks the club could look to sell player for just £3m this summer

Speaking to Tottenham News, Spurs insider John Wenham has predicted that the club could look to sell Japhet Tanganga for just £3m this summer.

Tanganga’s 2023/24 season has gone much like his Tottenham career in general, plagued by injuries and a lack of regular football. The academy graduate was sent on loan to Augsburg to get some game time under his belt, but didn’t kick a ball for them before returning to Hotspur Way.

Tanganga is now on loan at Millwall in the Championship and finally getting some competitive minutes as he looks to rekindle his career, but Wenham feels his Tottenham future may not extend beyond this summer.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in the summer, although Spurs do have the option to extend his deal by an extra year. So, it may become a case of whether the Lilywhites want to allow him to leave on a free transfer.

Will Japhet Tanganga leave Tottenham this summer?

Wenham believes that Tanganga will either part ways with Tottenham on a free at the end of the season or, if he impresses out on loan, he may be sold for around £3m after the contract extension is triggered.

He said: “If Tanganga doesn’t play between now and the end of the season, I think that Tottenham will simply just release him.

“If he does play, then I think Spurs will take up the option to extend his contract by one year, and then look to sell him for somewhere around the £3 million mark.

“Time will tell, but I expect that either way he will be gone in the summer.

“As we can see the rebuild is taking place, and it is important to get these players out the door.

“We suddenly look very strong in defence which means that losing the likes of Tanganga and Joe Rodon would have very little impact on the first-team squad.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

The time has come for Tanganga to leave Tottenham. At this point in his career, he needs stability, and that won’t come with a bit-part role under Ange Postecoglou. Hopefully, he can earn a move to a decent Championship side and I expect Spurs will be ruthless by not extending his contract.
