Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, has labelled the North London club ‘a mega team’.
Barbosa has been on fire in front of goal since leaving Inter Milan to return to Brazilian football in 2017 and he is showing no signs of slowing down.
The striker is on course to have the best season of his career statistically, managing 18 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions so far this campaign.
Tottenham were credited with an interest in the Brazilian last year but the move did not materialise and the player ended up staying put at Flamengo.
Barbosa was also previously thought to be on the radars of both Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Flamengo star has now opened up on his admiration for the Premier League, naming Spurs as one of the teams he keeps an eye on.
He told The Sun: “I also played a lot of PlayStation with English teams and that made me like it even more. I always saw the goals of Thierry Henry – I thought he was a very powerful, strong and intelligent striker.
“Didier Drogba I liked a lot too. Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney at Manchester United. It’s a Championship where the best in the world play.”
“I still watch it now. I really like Pep Guardiola’s style at Manchester City, Chelsea managed to form a great team with Thomas Tuchel’s hands. Liverpool have a very interesting team and a fantastic coach.
“Tottenham is a mega team and I really enjoyed the West Ham season. I’m a big fan of Premier League football.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly keen on adding another striker to his squad, one would expect Spurs to go for an established name like Ings or an up and coming talent like Vlahovic rather than taking a punt on a striker who plays his football in Brazil.
