Tottenham join hot Premier League race to sign 20-goal Christos Tzolis for over £32m

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a move for a Greek international Christos Tzolis, but the race for his signature is getting crowded ahead of the summer window.

Spurs have struggled with a lack of quality in their wide areas in the second half of the season following injuries to Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert, while Dejan Kulusevski has remained out of action since last May.

That has forced Roberto De Zerbi to turn to the likes of Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani, who have not been able to consistently pose a threat to full-backs.

It thus comes as no surprise to hear that the Lilywhites have turned their attention to one of the most highly rated wide players in Belgian football.

Tottenham joined by four Premier League giants in race for Christos Tzolis

It first emerged in November of last year that Spurs are assessing a move for Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis, and the speculation has not stopped since.

A new report in TEAMtalk has now claimed that Tottenham explored a move for the 24-year-old in the January window and are continuing to monitor the winger ahead of the summer.

Tzolis has evolved into the best wide player in the Belgian top-flight over the last two seasons, having found the back of the net 20 times and provided 27 assists in 50 appearances this term.

His form has brought him to the attention of other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have become the three latest clubs to enter the race.

The Gunners, Blues, and the Red Devils are now ‘intensifying their interest’ in Tzolis, with all three clubs sending representatives to Belgium over the weekend to watch the winger inspire Brugge to an emphatic 5-0 victory over Union SG.

Club Brugge want a record transfer fee for Tzolis

The representatives of the three Premier League giants would have certainly been impressed by the Greek international, who scored once and provided three assists on Sunday.

TEAMtalk say that Club Brugge are increasingly expecting Tzolis to leave this summer as the interest in his services continues to grow.

However, the club are determined to maximise the former Norwich star’s value, and they are expected to demand a fee that surpasses the current Belgian transfer record, which is held by Charles De Ketelaere’s £32.5m move to AC Milan in 2022.
