Tottenham keen on highly-rated Prem centre back

Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of a new centre back at the moment.

Toby Alderweireld could be leaving in the summer after his contract entered its final year this season.

Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier are both out injured and will miss the game against West Ham United this evening.

Vertonghen’s contract has also entered its final year in North London,, and has yet to be extended by the club.

This leaves only Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez as the only out and out long-term centre backs in Spurs’ squad, highlighting the need for some fresh blood.

According to The Chronicle, Spurs and Chelsea are both eyeing up a move for Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles.

Lascelles is a very highly-rated player and has proven himself in the Premier League for the Magpies, not to mention that he is English which helps with the home grown rules.

The defender is currently under contract until 2023, and Newcastle are keen to keep him, so it could take a huge bid or a transfer request to upset that balance.

It could all depend on whether Newcastle manage to avoid relegation this season.
