Tottenham legend believes club were right not to keep young starlet

Tottenham legend, Ledley King has spoken of the importance in new signing Jack Clarke returning to his former club Leeds United on loan for the season. (Leeds Live)

Spurs signed Clarke from United at the beginning of the month in a deal worth around £10m but the 18-year-old was immediately returned on a season-long loan. (BBC)

However, Spurs legend King insists it was the right move in order for the youngster to progress as he told Oddschecker:

“I think he’s a terrific young player and it’s important that he now goes back to Leeds to develop his education further,” he said.

“It’s important at that age to play football, it’s not easy when you take a young kid out of playing regular football.”

Clarke will now return to playing under the management of Mauricio Pochettino’s managerial mentor – Marcelo Bielsa.

Clarke made 25 appearances for United last season with 20 of them coming from the bench. (Evening Standard)

In those games, Clarke managed to bag two goals and two assists despite the limited time he had on the field. (Evening Standard)

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think we can all agree it was the right move for Clarke to return on loan. It felt a little bit of a kick in the teeth to wait over 500 days for a signing and then for him to be returned on loan but it was quickly followed by the announcement of Tanguy Ndombele to make up for Clarke’s immediate departure.
