Tottenham legend claims Nuno’s job could hinge on availability of one man

Graham Roberts has claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s position as Tottenham head coach next season depends on the availability of Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Nuno was appointed as the new face in the Spurs dugout following the departure of Jose Mourinho in April, which brought an end to a managerial search lasting 72 days.

Spurs were linked with a sensational return for Pochettino during that search, but the rumours were soon shelved after he signed a one-year contract extension with Les Parisiens.

Nuno started the Premier League campaign with a perfect three wins from three games, but saw his side’s form fall off a cliff in the next set of fixtures, suffering three defeats in as many games.

The ship was somewhat steadied before the international break when Spurs edged past Aston Villa 2-1, but uncertainty already looms over Nuno’s immediate future.

When quizzed on what is expected for Nuno going forward, Spurs legend Roberts said he thinks the Portuguese coach’s long-term future could depend on Pochettino.

Roberts told This Is Futbol: “I think a big factor will probably be on the Pochettino situation, what happens over there.

“We draw with Rennes and everybody goes off their heads, ‘oh its only Rennes’ and they go and beat Paris Saint-Germain who are the best team in the world by all accounts.”

It is still relatively early days for Nuno, but it hasn’t been entirely convincing s far. But both his and Pochettino’s contracts correspond, so a return to Spurs does not look totally out of the picture. We will get an idea of both of their futures are the season continues to progress.
