Tottenham legend makes big Eriksen claim

Tottenham legend Chris Waddle has backed the club to keep hold of Christian Eriksen amidst the rumours linking him with a move away from the club.

With the European transfer window open until September 2nd, the 27-year-old could still leave the club this summer.

However, Waddle has suggested the Danish international will stay at the club beyond the summer.

Recent reports suggest that Spurs have offered Eriksen a new contract worth £200,000 a week (Daily Mail).

However, with just one year left on Eriksen’s contract with the club, Spurs might lose him for free next summer if the midfielder doesn’t sign an extension.

Speaking to the BBC, Waddle said, “I actually think Eriksen will stay – the clubs he thought would come in for him have not made a move.”

The 58-year-old, who spent four seasons at White Hart Lane before moving to Marseille in 1989, backed the Lilywhites to finish third in the Premier League.

Waddle added, “In any case, Spurs are a very efficient side. I am confident they will finish third but for me this is it – this is the time when they have to start winning silverware. ”

As it is clear that Eriksen isn’t at the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist this summer, the ideal situation for all parties would be for the 27-year-old to sign an extension with Spurs with a release clause that will allow him to leave if Madrid come calling next summer.
