Tottenham legend names two midfielders he would like the club to sign for Conte

Former Tottenham defender, Graham Roberts has suggested two Leicester midfielders could serve as the creative signing Antonio Conte has been looking for this summer.

Despite already signing six new players this summer, namely Perisic, Forster, Bissouma, Richarlison, Lenglet, and Spence, reports have claimed Spurs are still searching for opportunities in the creative midfielder market (Evening Standard).

Journalist Dean Jones reported last week that Spurs had ‘touched base’ over a potential deal to sign Maddison (GiveMeSport), while Tielemans was also mentioned as a possible target earlier in the summer (GiveMeSport).

Alasdair Gold revealed in June that Tottenham had been monitoring Maddison for a long time, although a deal would be difficult this summer (Football.London). He then later reported those at Spurs were playing down the idea of a bid (YouTube channel 56:51).

According to The Telegraph, Leicester may also need to sell players before they can make signings this summer.

Speaking about transfers on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin Youtube channel, Roberts said: “I think if we can get a decent midfield player, I would go for James Maddison or someone like that, Tielemans or someone like that.

“Because they have been there and done it in the Premier League, I also think we need another striker because we can’t play Harry every week.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Clearly, Tielemans is the more attainable option considering his availability, but Maddison makes so much more sense. With Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Skipp, and Bissouma already occupying Spurs’ midfield, a more attack-minded player is needed.

While Tielemans can be creative, Maddison is the more dynamic, goalscoring, creative attacking midfielder that Conte requires. If it comes down to a decision between the Leicester midfield pair, Maddison is the obvious pick.
